Sparrows on a palm tree

Yesterday we went to see a movie at Campona (which I like because unlike in most downtown destinations, I can park easily and for free). Unfortunately, I did not realize that the yellow color around the showtime in our movie guide meant "Saturday and Sunday only". So instead we had a quick bite at the food court on the same floor. And there, as we were sitting between Shake Palacsintabár, THAI, and Főzelékbár (and McDonald's, of course), I noticed two sparrows on the top of a ragged palm tree.

This was a bizarre site for a couple of reasons. First, why were there palm trees in the food court? Was it some sort of reference to Southern California or Florida? Tacky mall, modern food court, disgusting food, palm trees...? Second, this was the middle of the winter, it was minus 10 Celsius outside, and everyone was sitting around munching fast food in bulging winter jackets. Yet almost like in a tropical paradise. And then there were these two sparrows who used the tree to keep an eye on the tables before diving down to snatch the leftovers.
