Lower price for less gas

Still on the subject of varying gasoline prices, I remember a friend telling me a story how years back he noticed this small gas station somewhere near the city of Körmend, consisting of but a single pump. But it had the cheapest gas in the area. Yet when he filled up there, he actually ended paying more than usual as suddenly he needed more gas to fill his tank.

So sometimes cheaper is more expensive. Of course, there is no way of knowing this until you try. And my friend's story was years ago, I don't expect anything similar happening these days in any of the large gas stations. But just recently when my wife paid with a 20,000 bill at a station near the Austrian border on M3 (Budapest-Vienna), they gave back change from 10,000 and denied that she had given them a larger bill. When she insisted, two large men practically threw her out. Now that's what I call democracy in action.
